Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its November 18, 2024 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president, with eight directors present and one via conference call.

The board approved the minutes from October 14 and 28, 2024, along with the treasurer's, investment, board summary, activities, and procurement card reports. It approved the monthly bills across the general, activity, food service, and capital reserve funds. The board transferred a sum from the general fund to the capital reserve fund for future capital projects.

The board adopted Resolution No. 2024-6 appointing representatives to the Allegheny Intermediate Unit Joint Purchasing Program for 2025-2026. It approved a purchase of a steel snowplow from Zoresco Equipment Company for a new pickup truck, funded from the capital reserve. A donation from Moe's Southwest Grill was approved for the Battle of the Books program at three elementary schools.

The board gave first reading to 20 revised policies covering attendance, discipline, graduation, controlled substances, public records, school calendar, emergency preparedness, food services, transportation, and computer security. It approved a speech and debate field trip to Bloomsburg University in March 2025, and approved the list of daily field trips through February 2025.

On personnel, the board accepted the resignations of four staff members, including the retirement of an employee. It hired a teacher, a dishwasher/server, and a life skills classroom assistant. The board approved extra duty pay for a middle school band director, elementary remediation facilitators at six schools, internal movements, student teachers, and authorization to fill various positions before the December 3 meeting. It also approved winter and spring sports coaches and two event workers. The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
