Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its December 3, 2024 business meeting at 7:15 p.m., called to order by the president. Nine directors were present; two directors were absent.

The board approved the November 18 minutes and the December financial reports, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General Fund, Capital Reserve, Food Service and Activity funds. It approved advertising bids for renovations at Allard, Brooks, the middle school and the high school, and approved a purchase for new gymnastics uneven bars.

The board appointed two employees to the Parkway West CTC Joint Operating Committee for a three-year term. It approved field trips for the swim/dive team to Geneva, Ohio, and the softball team to Orlando, plus the full list of daily field trips for the 2024-2025 school year. Conferences were approved, including an education-technology trip to Orlando and an artificial intelligence fellows program in Austin; an employee asked how the district judges conference value and whether costs are capped.

In personnel, the board hired a middle school special education teacher, approved two long-term substitute teachers, granted an employee a family medical leave, accepted three resignations, awarded department heads a payment each, and approved remediation facilitators, mentors, coaches and internal movements. It authorized the superintendent to fill additional positions before the January 13 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m.
