Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its January 13, 2025 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Eight directors were present; one director was absent. The board approved the December 3, 2024 minutes and January financial reports, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General Fund, Capital Reserve Fund, Bond Issue, Food Service Fund, and Activity Fund. It adopted Resolution No. 2025-1 under the Act 1 Taxpayer Relief Act, committing not to raise taxes above a 4.90% index for 2025-2026.

The board approved several purchases and agreements: a Flowly.ai website enhancement, a GPS Connect from Transfinder, and seventeen SmartClocks from Touchpoint. It signed a memorandum with Jasmine Nyree Homes, Inc. for transition programming, a memorandum with The College of Wooster to host student teachers, and a no-cost MyCiteEd pilot program. Two policies passed: Policy No. 123.3 prohibiting coaches from being parents of athletes, and Policy No. 707 on use of school facilities. The board also approved an American Cultures Club field trip to Washington, D.C., and a full list of daily student field trips.

Personnel actions included hiring a school nurse, four custodians, and several long-term substitute special education teachers, alongside accepted resignations and medical leaves. The board authorized the superintendent to fill additional positions before the January 27 workshop. During public comment, a resident questioned discarded gymnastics equipment and a website scheduling error, prompting the superintendent to promise website corrections; another resident asked about youth football field fees, which the superintendent said will appear in the facility usage policy. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
