Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its January 27, 2025, workshop meeting in the High School Auditorium, called to order by the president. Nine directors were present, with one director absent; the board had met in executive session beforehand on personnel and legal matters. The superintendent presented an elementary school reconfiguration plan shifting from five to four schools, which requires redistricting to balance enrollment. The board approved payment of the monthly bills across the General Fund, Food Service, and Activity Fund, and approved the updated 2024-2025 school calendar. It approved the School Resource Officer Memorandum of Understanding with Moon Township Police through June 30, 2025, and the High School Program of Studies for 2025-2026. The board gave third and final reading approval to revised Policies 123.3, prohibiting coaches from being parents or guardians of athletes, and 707 on use of school facilities. It approved the girls rugby field trips and lists of daily field trips and conferences, including a trip for a student.

On personnel, the board accepted resignations of two employees, rescinded an employment approval for Employee No. 3367, and approved leaves for two employees. It approved internal movements, extra-duty pay for an employee, grade-level leader compensation for an employee, school-year custodians, STA drivers, and authorized the superintendent to fill districtwide positions before the February 10 meeting. During audience recognition, residents questioned the coach departures, and parents asked about elementary reassignment; the superintendent said placements would be posted online after kindergarten rounding. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
