Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its February 10, 2025 business meeting at 7:06 p.m., called to order by the president. Seven directors were present; two directors were absent.

The board approved the minutes from January 13 and 27, 2025, and a package of financial reports. It approved the monthly bills for payment, split across the General Fund, Bond Issue, Food Service, and Activity funds. The board awarded construction bids for the high school, middle school, J.H. Brooks, and J.A. Allard elementary schools, plus testing for a future central receiving and operations building and tennis courts. General construction went to Caliber Contracting, with fire protection to Shipley Plumbing, HVAC to Hampton Mechanical, and electrical to Sargent Electric; approval was subject to the solicitor's review, with funds drawn from the 2024 Bond Issue.

The board approved the Parkway West Career and Technology Center's 2025-2026 general operating budget and jointure budget, a 7.28% increase. It adopted Resolution No. 2025-2 for Moon Township's tax collector compensation for a four-year term beginning January 2026, and Resolution No. 2025-3 for Crescent Township. The board approved a carpet purchase and installation from Gordian at McCormick Elementary under a Co-Stars contract. It approved the 2025-2026 school calendar, amended to correct a January 22, 2026 date incorrectly flagged as an Act 80 day.

The board approved first and second readings of numerous revised PSBA and MASD policies, covering everything from nondiscrimination and disability discipline to records management and school security. It approved the list of daily field trips for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year. In personnel, the board hired a dishwasher/server at Bon Meade Elementary and a custodian at Allard Elementary, accepted an employee's resignation, approved a medical leave for an employee, approved internal movements and school-year and substitute custodians, hired an STA van driver, authorized the superintendent to fill districtwide positions before the February 24 meeting, and approved a Slippery Rock University student athletic trainer and a volunteer boys rugby coach. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
