Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its March 10, 2025 business meeting at 7:10 p.m., called to order by the president, with eight directors present and one absent. The board approved the February minutes and the March financial reports, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General Fund, Bond Issue, Food Service, and Activity funds. It approved the Allegheny Intermediate Unit's 2025-2026 Program of Services budget, with the district's contribution estimated at a specific amount, and accepted a donation from the Moon Area Education Foundation for educational sets at elementary schools. The board approved the revised proposed 2025-2026 school calendar and adopted 24 policies on second reading and 20 on third and final reading, all revised for PSBA and MASD.

The board approved conferences exceeding a specific amount, including a migrant education conference and a music festival trip, and authorized a March 19-21 field trip for the high school choir to the PMEA Region I Chorus Festival at Waynesburg. It approved a list of daily field trips running through May 22. On personnel, the board accepted the retirement of a Grade 6 teacher and the resignation of a head coach, approved several new staff at set hourly rates, granted a medical leave to a Spanish teacher, and approved numerous coaches, event workers, student teachers, substitute custodians, and a STA van driver. It also authorized the superintendent to fill districtwide positions before the next meeting. Two students received approval for a professionally conducted graduation fireworks display, and the board adjourned at 7:38 p.m. All motions passed on unanimous roll call votes.
