Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its April 14, 2025 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president, with 6 directors present and 3 absent. The board approved the March 10 and 24 minutes and a suite of financial reports, then approved the bills across the General Fund, Capital Reserve, Bond Issue, Food Service and Activity funds. It accepted donations from Eclipse Physical Therapy & Athletics for the track and field program, approved a Cooperative School Nurse Practicum affiliation agreement with Eastern University for the 2025-2026 year, and signed a retroactive staffing-services addendum with Precision HR effective March 31.

The board approved field trips for the Academic Games team to Washington, DC (April 25-29), the Speech and Debate team to Chicago (May 23-25), and a lengthy list of daily field trips through May 28. It approved the third and final reading of 24 revised policies covering disability nondiscrimination, discipline, threat assessment, bullying, data governance and related items. Two conferences were authorised: an employee's AP Chemistry institute and another employee's NACAC conference.

In personnel, the board appointed an employee as K-12 Student Assistance Program Coordinator and Home Liaison (July 1, 2025, to November 2, 2027), an employee as a high school breakfast worker, and an employee as a substitute custodian. It accepted an employee's retirement as a middle school art teacher, reassigned an employee to a Life Skills classroom assistant role, granted medical leaves to 3 employees, approved 2 student teachers, authorised 2 STA bus drivers, and authorised the superintendent to hire bus drivers. Two agenda items—a separation/retirement agreement and a termination—were removed.

The board discussed repurposing Hyde Elementary for a transitional Life Skills program for students aged 14 to 21, with no vote taken; administration will return with costs and a formal approval request. After audience questions about renovations, asbestos and the playground, the board announced a special meeting for April 21 at 5:00 p.m. and adjourned at 7:46 p.m.
