Special Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a special meeting on April 21, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in the boardroom of the District Administration Office, called to order by the Vice President. The Vice President, along with 4 other directors, were present in person, while 4 directors joined by conference call. The superintendent attended, and about ten members of the audience were present.

During audience comments, residents raised questions about the superintendent's separation agreement. A resident asked whether the agreement tied into any investigations, and the superintendent's representative said none were underway, noting the superintendent was ready to retire. Another resident asked about alternatives to a separation agreement and whether it would be public; the superintendent's representative confirmed it would be posted once signed by both parties. A third resident questioned whether the superintendent would be approved as a consultant, and the superintendent's representative said nothing had been signed, though the superintendent's involvement in the district's construction project made his expertise valuable. The resident expressed concern about a potential double payment upon retirement and again as a consultant. The superintendent's representative said any consultant arrangement would be addressed at future meetings and that the superintendent's official retirement date is June 30, 2025. The superintendent's representative then thanked the superintendent for his service since 2010, when he began as a principal, and recalled working alongside him at the high school.

The board then voted to approve the Separation Agreement and Release between the district and the superintendent, with his last day being June 30, 2025. The motion was made by a director and seconded by a director. All directors voted in favor on a roll call vote, except one director, who abstained due to his professional relationship with the superintendent. The meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m. on a motion by a director, seconded by a director, approved by a voice vote.
