Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on April 28, 2025, called to order by the president. Seven directors were present; one director was absent. The board voted unanimously, on roll call, to approve the monthly bills for the period of April 12-25, split across the General Fund, Bond Issue, Food Service, and Activity funds. It approved Stipulated Student Adjudications #1 and #2, and a six-year agreement with Focus School Software for a new student information system, starting July 1, 2025. The board exonerated the tax collectors from unpaid 2024 real estate taxes, approved a W.B. Mason proposal for middle school cafeteria tables, and authorized a three-year agreement with Interviewstream. It approved advertising for bids on the partial demolition of Richard J. Hyde Elementary School, approved first and final reading of revised Policy No. 338 on educational sabbaticals, and authorized field trips for the speech and debate team to Des Moines and the band and orchestra to Walt Disney World.

The board accepted the resignations of six staff members, including retirements, and approved a medical leave for an employee. It hired summer help custodians, ESY paraeducators, ESY teachers, fall sports coaches at the varsity, junior varsity, middle school, and volunteer levels, and an STA van driver, all pending clearances, and authorized the superintendent to hire bus drivers before the May 12 meeting. During public comment, residents raised concerns about the project at Richard J. Hyde Elementary School and updated demographic data, which administration confirmed had been posted. The meeting adjourned at 7:44 p.m.
