Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on May 27, 2025, called to order by the president at 7:05 p.m. Eight directors were present, with three directors absent. The board approved bills for payment for the period of May 10 to May 23, 2025, split across the General Fund, Capital Reserve, Bond Issue, Food Service, and Activity funds. It approved the Proposed Final Budget for the 2025-2026 school year, with a millage rate of 25.2831. The board authorized a window replacement project at Bon Meade Elementary School through Clark Contractors, Inc. via Gordian under JOC Contract #2021JOCC-21, funded from the Capital Reserve Fund.

The board approved an Addendum to the Allegheny Intermediate Unit Comprehensive Services Agreement for Waterfront Learning Services, providing the Cyber Education platform and course materials for July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. It approved the 2025-2026 meeting dates, a one-year agreement with Advanced Assessment Systems, LinkIT, and a Field Experience & Student Teaching Agreement with Kent State University. The board approved a conference for a teacher's EF Training Tour in Germany, with an estimated substitute cost.

On personnel, the board accepted the resignations of a building manager, a middle school English teacher, a gifted education teacher, and two unnamed employees subject to Solicitor review. It approved extra pay for a drama and musical director, an internal movement for an employee, summer help workers, an STA driver, and authorized the superintendent to fill substitute custodian, bus driver, and ESY positions before the June 9 meeting. The board adjourned at 7:56 p.m.

The superintendent's report recognized four juniors who earned medals at the ACT-SO program and a freshman who won the WPIAL Class 3A 400 meter title and placed fifth at the PIAA state championships. During audience comments, residents requested that a homeschooled student participate in graduation ceremonies, and the board said it would respond.
