Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its July 14, 2025 business meeting at 7:15 p.m. in the LGI Room at the High School, called to order by the president. All nine directors were present, along with administrators and the solicitor. The board approved the June 9 and June 30 minutes and the July financial reports, approved the monthly bills across the General Fund, Capital Reserve, Bond Issue, Food Service, and Activity funds, and granted the superintendent authority to approve building disposal lists. It approved an IDEA Section 619 pass-through agreement with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, adopted Resolution No. 2025-7 authorizing electronic signatures for PDE contracts, and approved a Typing.com renewal for all elementary students.

The board approved an educational services agreement with The School at McGuire Memorial for specialized programming and extended school year services. It approved first and final readings of revised Policies 103 and 104 on Title IX sexual harassment, and third and final readings of Policies 005, 308, 317, 339, and 823. Personnel approvals included a Spanish teacher, English teacher, special education teacher, and assistant principal, plus salary adjustments, department heads and coordinators, and extensive fall, winter, and spring sports coaching changes. Two resignations were accepted, and the board authorized the superintendent to fill several positions before the August 11 meeting.

Construction updates were presented for the High School, Middle School, Brooks and Allard Elementary Schools, with pending approvals for central operations, tennis courts, stadium renovations, an indoor sports facility, and RJ Hyde Elementary renovations. The board was asked to decide whether to retain or partially demolish the building, with a cost analysis still pending. Parkway West's welding program is expanding, and the board clarified that fall sports practices are underway and coaches are on one-year contracts. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
