Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met August 11, 2025, called to order by the president. After an executive session on personnel and legal matters, the board approved the July 14 minutes and August financial reports, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across five funds. It adopted Resolution No. 2025-8 authorizing a contract for general obligation bonds for facility construction and capital improvements, and approved a seven-year collective bargaining agreement with the Moon Education Association effective July 1, 2025.

The board approved proceeding with the partial demolition of Hyde Elementary School, granted the superintendent authority to approve change orders up to a specific amount, and approved 8 construction change orders carrying a net credit. It authorized advertising bids for a central operations and receiving building, tennis courts, stadium renovations, and a new indoor sporting facility.

The board approved a wide range of 2025-2026 service agreements, including the Allegheny Intermediate Unit comprehensive services agreement, Maxim Healthcare, Project Succeed through Keystone Oaks, Wesley Family Services, HSAO, Beaver Valley IU, Keysolutions staffing, Adelphoi Education, PA Connecting Communities, HOPSKIPDRIVE transportation coordination, The Bradley Center mental health services, The Day School and The Watson Institute out-of-district placements, and KidzRide. It accepted a donation to offset lunch debt, approved Orton Gillingham training and materials, and approved the Workers' Compensation provider panels, with one board member abstaining.

In personnel, the board accepted 9 resignations and approved numerous hires—special education, kindergarten, biology, art, counselor, reading specialist, life skills, computer, and family consumer science teachers, plus custodians, assistants, and STA drivers—with salaries and hourly rates approved for the positions. It approved coaches, event workers, a student teacher, and independent contractors for school health services. The board also approved field trips for the cross country, dance teams, and boys basketball programs and sanctioned 3 professional conferences. First day of school is set for August 27, 2025. The meeting adjourned at 8:46 p.m.
