Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on August 25, 2025, called to order by the president at 7:09 p.m. Seven directors were present; two directors were absent. The board approved the monthly bills for August 9–22, approved a change order for four teacher stations at the Middle School, and authorized an application for the PA DOT Transportation Set Aside Safety Sidewalk Grant for a sidewalk. The board approved the updated 2025-2026 school calendar, moving November 3 from a parent-teacher conference day to a teacher in-service day, accepted a donation of 27 cheerleading uniforms, approved a transition services agreement with Cares of Western PA, and authorized field trips for the middle and high school dance teams to Ohio and the marching band to Erie.

The board approved numerous staff actions. New hires included a Grade 2 teacher at Brooks, a long-term substitute Grade 6 ELA teacher, a library assistant at McCormick, and a dishwasher/server. Medical and childbearing leaves were approved for two employees. The board accepted three resignations, approved mentors, internal movements, teachers teaching sixth classes, and extensive extra-pay positions across all three buildings, along with safety care trainers, volunteer fall sports coaches, event workers, and a student teacher from Point Park University. The board authorized the superintendent to fill administrative, professional, support, substitute custodian, and bus driver positions before the September 8 meeting.

The superintendent offered support to a community after a bus accident, and the president cautioned against inaccurate social media posts about the new high school stairwell and classroom overcrowding, noting elementary capacity levels ranging from 79% to 85%. During audience comments, a resident asked why juniors were denied parking passes; the superintendent explained limited spots due to campus construction. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
