Special Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a special meeting on November 24, 2025, called to order by the president. Eight directors were present, with one director absent, and the superintendent and other administrators were in attendance.

The board's primary action was accepting the lowest bids for stadium renovations and a new indoor sporting facility. The contracts were awarded across multiple categories including general construction to Mike Coates Construction, sitework to Tedesco Excavating, bleachers to Dant Clayton, and electrical to A-1 Electric. The superintendent noted the bids came in under budget. Two construction categories—locker and casework—received no bids. The award was subject to final review by the district solicitor.

The board unanimously rejected all bids for the partial demolition of Richard J. Hyde Elementary School, authorizing a re-bid with modifications. The superintendent explained the district will re-purpose the building, with the Transition Program moving there next year and the other half serving as temporary athletic space during stadium renovations. The president and an employee noted the initial process felt rushed.

Similarly, the board rejected all bids for the tennis courts and central operations and receiving building, which came in over budget. Instead of constructing the building, the district plans to relocate the tennis courts and create a larger parking lot.

The board also approved a proposal from Force Turf Solutions for the turf of the district's baseball and softball fields, including a multipurpose field, under CoStars contract #014-157, funded from the Capital Reserve Fund.

The meeting adjourned at 4:31 p.m. All votes passed on roll call, with the adjournment approved by voice vote.
