Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on January 26, 2026, opening at 7:08 p.m. after an executive session on personnel and legal matters. The president presided with 7 directors present and 1 director absent. The superintendent welcomed back the clerk and noted School Board Director Appreciation Month.

The board approved the monthly bills for January 10–23, split across the General, Bond Issue, Food Service, and Activity funds. On a roll call vote, all directors approved except one director, who abstained on the Sitelogiq Construction payment due to a family conflict of interest. The board adopted Resolution No. 2026-1, accepting the Act 1 Taxpayer Relief Act and confirming it would not raise taxes above the 4.30% index for 2026-2027. It approved Parkway West Career and Technology Center's 2026-2027 budget, a total increase of 8.64%.

The board accepted lowest bids for the new Hyde School tennis courts and parking lot from Dun Rite Construction and A-1 Electric, and for an elevator at Hyde from Stonemile Group and Allegheny City Electric. Both awards were subject to solicitor and project manager review. It approved a master lease purchase with Apple for MacBook Air laptops, accepting 0% financing over 4 years from the Capital Projects Fund. Other approvals included Builder's Hardware doors and hardware from bond funds, and Critical Response Group's critical incident mapping from a school safety grant. The board also approved the Kennywood picnic agreement designating June 15, 2026, and approved high school clubs, academic games and softball field trips, and a list of daily field trips.

In personnel, the board accepted resignations and retirements, approved a long-term substitute biology teacher, a dishwasher/server, a medical leave, mentors, sixth-class teaching assignments, and extra-pay and department-head compensation changes, awarded tenure to a teacher, and approved numerous coaches and STA drivers. It authorized the superintendent to fill positions before the February 9 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
