Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met May 11, 2026, at 7:05 p.m., with the president presiding and eight directors present; one director was absent. The board approved the April 13 and 27 minutes and the May financial reports, then approved the monthly bills, with a director abstaining on a payment for Sitelogiq Construction due to a family conflict of interest. It approved the 2026-2027 proposed final budget with expenditures and a millage rate of 26.04159, and a deduct change order (TC-CO-01) swapping turf to save a specific amount. The board appointed a director as treasurer for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2026.

The board approved field trips, including a high school choir trip to Walt Disney World in March 2027 and a marching band trip to Washington and Jefferson College in August 2026. It approved renaming Richard J. Hyde Elementary to Richard J. Hyde Academy, operating as a transition program for students with disabilities ages 18-21. On personnel, the board accepted a teacher's retirement effective July 30, 2026, approved a revised retirement date of June 5, 2026, for another teacher, and authorized the superintendent to hire staff before the May 26 meeting. It approved fall, winter, and activity coaches and sponsors for 2026-2027, paraeducator changes for the summer ESY program, an internal movement, a pre-student teacher, and a summer custodial worker at a specific hourly rate.
