Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its May 26, 2026, business meeting at 7:05 p.m., called to order by the president. Seven directors were present, with two directors absent; the district's superintendent and others attended. The board first heard the superintendent's report, which honored two student-athletes: a sophomore who won two WPIAL Class 3A titles and a state silver medal, and a student who became the district's first boys track and field state champion since 1960.

On personnel, the board accepted the resignations of a biology teacher and a high school dishwasher, approved several leaves of absence, named an employee as a summer ESY cyber education teacher, approved an internal movement for a custodian, and appointed an employee as the 2026-2027 girls basketball head coach. It also approved an employee as a summer custodial worker and authorized the superintendent to fill administrative, professional, support, coaching, substitute teaching, substitute custodial, and bus driver positions before the June 8 meeting. All passed on a roll call vote.

Finance and operations action included approving the monthly bills for May 9-22, and awarding the lowest bid to Culinary Depot for two Combi Ovens each at Moon Area High School and Bon Meade Elementary, funded by the Cafeteria Fund.

The education agenda approved daily field trips, a memorandum of understanding with the Moon Education Association regarding teaching hours, a Project Succeed agreement with Keystone Oaks, an updated high school Program of Studies reflecting a seven-period schedule, a letter of agreement with the Human Services Administration Organization, adding a book to approved reading titles, a Cengage Learning quote for the National Geographic 7th-grade Social Studies curriculum, and Moon Area's participation in the Kennedy School of Driving End-of-Course Skills Test Program. The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
