Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its July 20, 2026 business meeting at 7:00 pm, called to order by the president. Seven directors were present; two directors were absent. Prior to the meeting, the board met in executive session on personnel and legal matters.

The board approved the June 8, 23 and 30 minutes and the July financial reports. It approved the monthly bills for the periods of June 20–30 and July 1–17. On the payment motion, all directors voted in favor except a director, who abstained on the Sitelogiq Construction payment due to a family conflict of interest. The board approved four construction change orders: SC-CO-01 storm-drain work at the press box, SC-CO-03 stadium waterlines, PC-CO-01 fire pump at the indoor sporting facility and PC-CO-02 sanitary-sewer rerouting, all funded from Bond Issue Project Contingency. It accepted a payment from a resident in full settlement of delinquent taxes on a property, approved JMJ Carpentry's stadium casework bid, and authorised a used pickup from Matheny Motors.

On the education agenda, the board approved agreements with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (Title I), Maxim Healthcare (substitute nurses), PA Connecting Communities (transition services), CLASS Academy (McGuire Memorial) and Pittsburgh Behavioral Services (out-of-district placement). In personnel, the board removed an agenda item and approved 14 new hires for the 2026-2027 year, accepted four resignations, granted three leaves of absence, approved department heads and coordinators, internal movements, rescinded one fall coach and approved several varsity and JV coaches. It authorised the superintendent to fill remaining positions before the August 24 meeting.

During audience comments, a resident requested new middle school baseball and girls slow pitch softball programs, and others raised concerns about a coach. A resident raised playground safety at Hyde Academy, and a resident said he would follow up with a coach. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
