Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council met on February 19, 2014, and approved the minutes from its January 22 meeting. The council set June 21 as the likely date for its annual shredding event, noting last year’s success. Members learned that the township has purchased a new software package, Board Docs, to track activities and store documents; the Planning Commission will be the primary user, but the EAC can also use it to review development plans, track events, and store meeting minutes. A council member introduced the newly hired township planning director, who discussed his background. The council member also presented a consolidation plan for the Corsi Landscaping business to move to Moon Clinton Road. Under old business, the council discussed Public Awareness Weekend on March 15, for which a council member has scheduled a recording session. The primary recycling day is set for June 7, with JVC hosting additional events on April 5, August 2, and October 4. A council member noted that JVC needs to set up differently to prevent traffic from flowing onto Beaver Grade Road. The grant registration has been sent, and members reviewed a new flyer; the council member will update the shredding event blurb. The council discussed the need for volunteers and may ask for Public Works employees. For Earth Day on April 13, the council member ordered 200 potted purple coneflowers at $1.10 each, and a council member suggested having recycling day flyers and a volunteer sign-up sheet available. The Boggs School Road cleanup is tentatively set for April 14, with members to report availability to the council member. A council member provided a stormwater article for the “Did you know” series, and a council member is working on a green initiatives website. The council member is also researching a tour of a shredding facility or recycling plant. The meeting adjourned at 6:49 p.m.
