Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council met on March 19, 2014, and approved the minutes of its previous meeting after correcting the date of a road cleanup from April 14 to April 12. The council reviewed two development plans. The Corsi Consolidation Plan, which involves moving a landscaping company from Shafer Road to Moon Clinton Road, includes a storm water pond and raised no issues. The council also reviewed Foxwood Knolls Phase 3, a new housing development off Moon Clinton Road, and raised no issues. Members voted to keep their monthly meeting start time at 6:00 p.m. after discussing a possible change to 6:30 p.m. A council member reported that Allegheny West Publication, under new ownership, did not publish his latest “Did You Know” article; he will contact the new owner to try to reinstate the articles. In old business, the council noted that a council member missed his scheduled time slot for Public Awareness Weekend on March 15 due to a family emergency. A council member provided a new flyer for the Recycling Day Event scheduled for June 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and indicated she must advertise the event with the Allegheny County Conservation District. For Earth Day on April 13, members were asked to arrive around 12:30 p.m.; flowers will be in the basement. Regarding volunteer opportunities for Recycling Day, a council member contacted the United Methodist Church, which agreed to provide volunteers but wanted to involve children; she convinced them to wait until after experiencing the event. A council member contacted the Moon High School National Honor Society lead but received no callback, and also contacted the Youth Ministry at St. Margaret Mary, which requested township letterhead to request volunteers; this may be too late for this year but could work for future events. Members agreed to use a volunteer sign-up sheet developed by a council member and have it available at Earth Day. The Boggs School Road Cleanup is firm for April 12 from 8 to 10 a.m. The council agreed to use Board Docs Lite software to review plans and store documents; a council member will provide passwords. The meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
