Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council met April 13 and approved the March minutes. A council member announced that an administrative assistant has resigned, and her position was offered to a candidate from the previous hiring list. The council reviewed a land development plan for Buckeye Terminal to add four above-ground storage tanks at 3202 University Blvd. along the Ohio River; the tanks will be outside the flood plain, and the vendor offered to donate the landscaping budget money to the township. Members discussed the Zika virus, with a council member noting a resident’s concern that the township had not addressed it in the Messenger; a council member will research flyer content for Earth Day or a future publication.

In old business, the council praised a council member for her April 1 radio interview. A township employee will design informational flyers for the EAC and redesign the Community Day flyer. The shredding event is confirmed for June 11 at the high school campus. For Earth Day on April 24, the plant giveaway will be Heuchera America (Coral Bells) instead of Baptisia Australis. The council approved a children’s activity to accompany the stormwater runoff model exhibit and thanked public works staff for building it. Waste Management did not respond about magnets for the At Your Door service. The Boggs School Road cleanup, canceled due to weather, was rescheduled for May 14. The June EAC meeting was moved to June 1. A council member reported on the comprehensive plan update, focusing on the former Super K-Mart site near Robinson Town Centre; ideas include town homes under three stories, local retailers, and landscape buffers. A council member recommended using the township’s preservation plan for architectural features. The council reviewed a DEP grant for Recycling Day on June 4, noting municipal workers may not handle materials. Residents are voting on a township slogan. The next meeting is May 11.
