Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) met on August 8, 2018, for a brainstorming session focused on upcoming events and ongoing initiatives. The committee discussed plans for a road cleanup, with a committee member set to contact an employee about assisting with Old Thorn Run Road; otherwise, an October date will be scheduled for cleaning Boggs School Run. For Earth Day, a committee member proposed building plastic bird feeders from soda bottles, though this would require additional prep time. A committee member stressed that stormwater management must be highlighted due to new PRP fees taking effect soon, and the committee considered creating a poster board contrasting recyclable materials with garbage and compost. Regarding Recycling Day, the committee agreed to continue inviting JVS employees despite past complaints, while exploring additional collection options such as clothing, glass, and Styrofoam. A committee member will investigate glass repositories since glass will be phased out of resident collections. A committee member emphasized she needs more support from the EAC on stormwater management, noting that new fees may be levied based on individual runoff situations. A committee member reported on a Montour Run Watershed Association meeting, highlighting that organic topsoil is being hauled into Moon Park from the Mil Run Project, and that the association welcomes Moon Township input; the committee member will soon join their board. A committee member volunteered to present at the Government Review interview but requested someone attend with her, and suggested retired members collaborate on the PowerPoint presentation.
