Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council met Nov. 14 and approved the minutes from its Oct. 24 meeting. In new business, the council reviewed a residential land development plan for the Village at Market Place, a proposed subdivision of 435 lots on 145 acres near Hookstown Grade and Hershinger Roads. A council member noted that the Ginkgo trees currently shown on the plans cannot be used throughout the entire development; another council member will review the plans further. The council noted that plans for a Subaru Vehicle Service Center at Broadhead Road and Grant Drive and a Zips Car Wash at Beaver Grade and Carnot Roads will be forthcoming. In old business, the council discussed the 2019 MTMA recycling and trash contract. A pamphlet outlining the new recycling contract was mailed to all residents, and a council member provided a Waste Management "Contamination 101" pamphlet, as the township will adopt changes to its recycling program to meet new market requirements. Waste Management will be represented at the next Government In Review interviews. A council member reported that the Comprehensive Plan Update group will likely not meet until January 2019; she plans to work with an employee on a trail connector initiative in conjunction with Hollow Oak Land Trust. A council member noted that the council has spoken with a developer about the Chevron property and wants to study proposed traffic patterns. A council member announced that he and another member will not serve on the council next year, and members were asked to suggest potential replacements. A council member reported that Gateway Recycling in Robinson has partnered with Giant Eagle to accept plastic bags and cardboard, which is recycled into tissue in Buffalo. A council member noted that Target has drop-off areas for glass, and another council member will investigate further. The next EAC meeting is Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
