Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council met on May 8, 2019, and approved the minutes from the April 10 meeting. Under new business, the council reviewed the limited landscape plan for Village at Market Place Phase 1 and recommended a mixture of tree types for street trees to minimize devastation from a tree blight. In old business, the council recapped the Earth Day activity and plant giveaway, noting that despite cold weather, the event was successful with many children enjoying the Paint/TP Roll activity. Leftover Redbud seedlings were planted on Robin Hill and at the Municipal Building properties. The council then planned for Recycling Day on June 1, 2019, assigning team leaders for various stations: two employees for Construction Junction, three employees for tires, two employees for electronics, one employee for appliances, and two employees as greeters. An employee will email vendors, order food, and set up a pre-planning meeting with Public Works. Upcoming events include Recycling Day, a Master Watershed Steward Program on July 22 presented by Penn State Extension, a Healthy Backyards event on July 24 after the Farmers Market, and Walk the Moon trail day on October 5. During discussion, an employee reviewed the development of pop-up glass recycling events hosted by PRC, with the first possible event on Saturday August 17 from 10 am to 2 pm. The township is waiting to hear back and enter into an agreement. An employee volunteered to write a letter on behalf of the EAC requesting township support and budget for the pop-up events beginning next year, with an employee suggesting a letter before August for budget preparation. The next meeting is scheduled for August 14 at 6:00 p.m., with discussion about repeating the team building and planning session at Moon Golf Course Lounge, pending approval. The meeting adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
