Board of Supervisors Budget Workshop Meeting

The Moon Township Board of Supervisors held a budget workshop on October 25, 2021, to review the proposed 2022 budget. No public comment was offered. The township manager and a financial consultant presented a preliminary budget with total revenues of $15,675,351 and total expenditures of $17,185,763. The projected beginning cash balance for 2022 is $11,636,058. The board discussed a five-year capital plan, with significant items including $1 million for infrastructure, $300,000 for sidewalks, and $350,000 for a sanitary sewer extension at Mooncrest Community Center funded through ARPA. The board recommended $150,000 for facility signage and $50,000 for two gateway signs. For the police station, $10 million in bond funding was allocated for construction, with $200,000 for communication equipment and $2.65 million for public safety renovations. The fire company requested $250,000 toward a $1.4 million ladder truck, with financing to be discussed. The board recommended $25,000 for pickleball courts, $15,000 for park amenities, and $5,000 for a park master plan update. Public works equipment recommendations included a compact tractor, a cold planer, a mower, a UTV, an aerator, and a trench box. The board did not recommend funding for new bridges in Olson Park, a cold storage facility, a mini excavator, or a front-end loader. MCA-TV’s request for $84,000 in studio cameras was recommended. The board also recommended $80,000 for demolishing blighted properties, $50,000 for the community forestry program, and $40,000 for general facilities maintenance. The meeting adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
