The Moon Township Library Board met November 17 and approved a $10,000 FedEx grant for STEM and STEAM activities. The board also approved 5% pay raises for all staff and professional librarians, effective following the board’s standard precedent. The library director reported that fundraising has brought in $15,000 to date, with an additional $28,000 in corporate and donor giving. Starting January 1, the library will extend Saturday hours to 10:00 am to 5:00 pm per state order, with two more weekday hours to be added in the spring. The board discussed plans to request additional funding from the Moon Township Municipal Authority for specific programming. The personnel committee reported that the library director’s 2020 evaluation is complete and awaiting final approval and the board president’s signature; the library director will also complete her 2021 review. The fundraising committee noted that the annual donation from MTMA prompted a response offering sponsorship options, which pleased the authority, and the board will ask for a slightly larger contribution. The building improvements committee reported a virtual meeting with Robert Morris University representatives and a realtor about the potential purchase of Braddock Hall on the RMU campus, which is 3.5 times the size of the current library. The committee discussed options including a developer buying and remodeling the building for a long-term lease, but stressed the need for a commitment from the township on the level of support. The board noted it has not yet received a report from the township engineer on developing the library’s second floor. Members prepared talking points for an upcoming meeting with the township supervisors, aiming to clarify that the library lacks a viable pathway for the future and that no decisions have been made. The board also approved the October meeting minutes and the treasurer’s report. The next meeting is scheduled for December 13 at 6:00 pm.
