Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council met on Dec. 14, 2022, and approved the minutes from its Oct. 12 meeting. The council voted to move forward with pursuing community wildlife habitat certification, with a council member making the motion and another council member seconding. A council member also floated the idea of constructing animal shelters in conjunction with Earth Day activities. A council member will ask a resident to write a proposal for the township’s public works director. The council discussed the new recycling program, with the Municipal Authority Manager unavailable but reachable by phone. Members asked about getting different-sized bins and the possibility of multiple bins; a council member noted that a regular garbage bin will arrive in late 2023. A council member offered to follow up on a possible 904 recycling grant. No land development plans were presented for review. A council member announced that the new director of parks and recreation has been hired; she will invite him to meet the council. For old business, a council member noted that four upcoming recycling events need to be updated for 2023 on the website, and a council member has already submitted a request. A council member posted the Waste Management Christmas tree pickup schedule on the council’s Facebook page and provided a guide for managing the page after he leaves at year’s end; a council member will address new responsibilities in January. A council member provided the 2023 electronic recycling schedule: April 1, June 3 (annual recycling day with appliances, tires and construction material vendors), Aug. 5 and Oct. 7. Members were asked to review the June 3 flyer. A council member has recruited a possible replacement for a departing member; a council member will follow up by email, and a council member will post a recruitment message on Facebook. No road, park or stream cleanup has been scheduled, but the council will consider an April 2023 cleanup on Boggs School Road. A council member will lead Earth Day activities under the theme “Invest in the Planet.” A council member highlighted developing a Moon Township Watershed Association and following up on a proposal for a junior EAC member. The next meeting is Jan. 11, 2023, at 6 p.m.
