Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council met May 8 and approved the minutes from its April 10 meeting. The council discussed its process for reviewing and commenting on township environmental initiatives, including planting on engineered steep slopes, deer management, native planting in parks and open spaces, and dark sky lighting revisions. The council decided to circulate a memo to the Board of Supervisors providing basic background information and best management practices on these topics. A planning specialist will prepare the memo, and council members will share best practices with her directly. The council concluded it would offer general guidance but that the township would need to engage experts for a full analysis on these areas. On council appointments, a member announced she would continue serving through the end of 2024 and then vacate the remaining year of her term. The council discussed reaching out to individuals interested in filling current vacancies and encouraging them to identify how their skills could supplement the existing knowledge base. A member stated the council would hold nominations until the full council could review and recommend applicants alongside a needs assessment for necessary skill sets. In old business, the council reviewed the Earth Day 2024 event, agreeing that the format at Robin Hill was preferred and should be continued for 2025. The planning specialist reviewed final event expenditures and thanked the council for its attendance. A member reviewed logistics for the upcoming Recycling Day on June 1, noting she would email the Public Works Director with follow-up details. She asked council members to arrive by 7:15 am and confirmed stations and refreshments. There was no public comment. The next meeting is scheduled for June 12 at 6:00 pm. The meeting adjourned at 7:13 pm.
