Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council held its reorganization meeting on January 15, 2025, electing a Chair, a Vice-Chair, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and a Historian for the coming year. The council approved the minutes from its November 13, 2024 meeting. During the financial review, a Planning Specialist presented the 2024 expenditures, which included Recycling Day flyer printing, tire recycling, and Earth Day costs, and the council discussed how those expenses relate to Green Initiatives and general EAC line items in the township’s 2025 budget. The council voted to investigate applying for a native planting grant from the Pennsylvania Native Plant Society. For upcoming events, the council settled on the national theme “Our Power, Our Planet” for this year’s Earth Day event and reviewed the 2025 electronic recycling dates. The Chair noted her intention to attend the PA Land Conservation Conference in State College from April 2-4. Discussion of the Moon Golf Club land development plan was tabled. Under general items, the council reviewed the requirements of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, including engaging community garden groups to plant native milkweed and nectar plants. To support that effort, the council voted to purchase 50 milkweed plugs for the Moon Garden Club’s plant giveaway on May 10th. Members discussed possible participation in Moon Township’s Public Awareness Weekend, with the Secretary and Treasurer indicating they might take part. A discussion on a letter of support for the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials in Allegheny County was tabled. No public comment was offered. The next meeting is scheduled for February 12, 2025 at 6:00 pm.
