Environmental Advisory Committee Meeting

The Moon Township Environmental Advisory Council met on February 12, 2025, with four members present, along with a Planning Specialist. The council approved the minutes from its January 15 meeting. In financial matters, the Planning Specialist reported that a $201 milkweed purchase, approved in January for the Moon Garden Club Seed Swap on May 10, had been completed; the plugs will ship to a member the week of April 28, and another member advised the recipient to keep receipts for reimbursement. The council voted unanimously to submit an approximately $800 grant application to the PA Native Plant Society for native plantings at the Olson Park entrance sign, with a member reviewing the chosen plants and planting schedule. The council also voted unanimously to submit a letter of support for the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials in Allegheny County. A member reported on her January 29 presentation to the Board of Supervisors regarding the township’s participation in the 2025 Mayor’s Monarch Pledge; the council discussed action items including a proclamation, a demonstration garden, and developer engagement, and the Planning Specialist will prepare a draft pledge for the next meeting. The council discussed participating in Moon Township Public Awareness Weekend 2025 and reviewed the open public input period for the state’s Outdoor Recreation Plan, which runs through March 3. The Planning Specialist noted that she and a member met with the Board of Supervisors President, who confirmed the council will play a significant role in the upcoming Comprehensive Plan and Parks and Recreation Plan updates. No public comment was offered. The next meeting is scheduled for March 12 at 6:00 p.m.
