Board of Supervisors Budget Meeting No. 1

The Moon Township Board of Supervisors held its first budget meeting for the 2026 fiscal year on September 17, reviewing capital outlay requests totaling $2,279,583.56 across 38 projects. The Finance Director noted that the 2025 capital budget had approved 22 projects for $2,489,386, including $1.5 million for the road program. Community Development requested $184,000 for a comprehensive plan update, community forestry program, and facilities signage. The Director of Community Development also requested a new Building Code Official position to handle increased permit volume and prepare for a future retirement, with discussion about using third-party inspectors. MCA-TV sought $84,100 for camera and replay upgrades. The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company requested $162,002.44 for eight projects including portable radios, station renovations, and training infrastructure. The Parks and Recreation Director presented $315,876.36 in requests, including $200,000 for athletic field lights and $45,000 for an Olson Park pavilion. The Chairman questioned the pavilion’s justification and instead pushed for two additional pickleball courts, directing the Parks and Recreation Director to meet with Public Works and the township engineer to develop cost estimates. The Police Chief requested $240,000 for emergency management equipment including a mobile command trailer and generators, plus $265,000 for police vehicles and an intersection camera. Public Works presented $65,084 for parks equipment, $65,535 for facilities maintenance including Robin Hill exterior doors and a road garage heating unit, and $894,985.76 for road department equipment including dump trucks, a wheel loader, and a tracked mower. The department also requested four new road employees and one new facilities crew member per year starting in 2027. The board asked staff to benchmark staffing levels against other communities.
