Moon Township Police Department
Every month the police department posts a one-page report to the township website: how many calls it took, how far its cars drove, how many accidents it investigated, how many tickets and warnings it wrote, how many times its officers went to court. This is every report it has posted since April 2023 — 35 of them — charted, with the original PDF linked beside each month.
It is a record of what the department did. It is not a count of crime in Moon Township, and there is no crime rate anywhere on this page. The one section that lists offences by type is further down; the department stopped publishing it in 2024.
Under each figure is the typical month across all 35 reports — the middle value, so one unusual month does not pull it.
The busiest number on the form. It counts everything the department was called to, including calls that turned out to be nothing — the form says so itself. 2023 averaged 932 a month across 7 reports; 2024 averaged 949 a month across 9 reports; 2025 averaged 840 a month across 12 reports; 2026 averaged 818 a month across 7 reports.
Four counts on four scales. Warnings run four to five times the number of traffic citations, so putting all four on one chart would flatten three of them into the axis. Each line below has its own scale, all four start at zero, and a hollow point is a month whose neighbours were never published — there is no line to draw through it.

Pennsylvania calls a crash reportable when someone is injured or a vehicle has to be towed away; everything else is non-reportable. Both are counted here, with the reportable share as the darker band on top.
This is a count, not a map. Which intersections, which years and which hours is a different dataset, from PennDOT, and it has its own section.
How far the cars drove. The department sometimes writes a note in the margin: on the November 2025 report, beside the lowest mileage in the whole series, it wrote “Cars 5 & 7 out of service”.
Appendix B of the report is a full offence table — the only offence-by-type figures the department publishes anywhere. It printed the table for 11 of these months, March 2023 to May 2024, and has not printed it since, although the heading is still on every report.
The form lists 38 separate offences. Gathered into the five families a person would actually ask about, month by month, they look like this. Each chart has its own scale and all five start at zero. 4 months inside the range were never published, so the line breaks rather than guessing across them, and a hollow point is a month left standing on its own.
Homicide, rape, robbery and assault. Simple assault is most of it.
Taking things: from a building, from a car, or the car itself.
Deception rather than force. The largest single line on the whole form.
Drug offences, driving under the influence, liquor laws, public drunkenness.
Disorderly conduct, vandalism, weapons, and the form's own catch-all line.

Reported zero times across those months: homicide — murder; homicide — manslaughter; rape — attempted; robbery — with a firearm; robbery — with another weapon; robbery — by force, unarmed; motor vehicle theft — trucks and buses; embezzlement; prostitution and commercialised vice; gambling; vagrancy.
It is not crime statistics. Almost everything above counts departmental workload — calls answered, miles driven, citations written. A busier month can mean more crime, more traffic enforcement, more false alarms, or simply more officers on shift. The report does not separate those, so neither does this page.
There is no crime rate for Moon Township, from anybody. The department reports no crime data to the FBI and never has — its record in the FBI’s own system carries staffing numbers back to 1971 and no offence data at all. That is unremarkable rather than suspicious: only about 209 Pennsylvania agencies appear in the FBI’s 2024 national file, so most departments in this state are in the same position.
The websites that hand you a number are estimating it. The neighbourhood-safety sites homebuyers land on publish precise-looking crime rates for Moon. One of them states plainly that FBI data is unavailable and that its figures are computed from home prices, income per capita and poverty rates; another gives no source at all and calls its numbers projections. They disagree with each other by a factor of ten. A number derived from house prices is a statement about house prices.
Getting offence detail for anything after May 2024 means filing a records request for it. Nobody has, and that is a decision rather than an oversight — the department is already publishing more than most of its neighbours.
