Moon football has no home field this fall. Here is where to go.
All three of the Tigers' home games are somewhere else this fall. Here is where to go, and what it is costing.
- Moon Area plays no football at its own stadium this fall. All three home games are elsewhere while a $39 million rebuild goes on.
- Two are at Joe Walton Stadium at Robert Morris, still in Moon. The third, on Oct. 16, is at F.N.B. Stadium in Pittsburgh, where there is no seating on the river side.
- Ticket prices, whether student and senior passes are honored, and parking are not published anywhere. Neither is any plan to replace the marching band's lost fundraising.
Moon Area's football team will not play a single game at its own stadium in 2026. All three of the Tigers' scheduled "home" games have been moved off campus while the stadium is torn up, and none of the new sites is the one residents drove to last year.
Two of them are close. Moon hosts Penn-Trafford on Sept. 11 and North Hills on Oct. 30 at Joe Walton Stadium at Robert Morris University, 6001 University Blvd., still inside Moon Township. School board minutes show the district approved a license agreement with the university for both dates at a cost of $3,000, covering rental and maintenance.
The third is a drive. On Oct. 16, Moon plays Penn Hills at F.N.B. Stadium, 510 W. Station Square Drive in Pittsburgh, as part of the 412 High School Football Classic. Fans should know one thing before buying: there will be no seating on the river side of the field.
That downtown game is also the rare item in this project that saved money. The board first approved renting West Allegheny's stadium for Oct. 16 at $4,375. On Aug. 10 it approved a participation agreement with City View Event Center, LLC instead — a change of venue the minutes record as "a savings of $4,375.00 in facility rental fees."
Everything else has been an expense. The board approved roughly $39 million in bids on Nov. 24, 2025, for the stadium renovation and a new indoor sporting facility: $39,098,866 in base bids plus selected alternates, which Dr. D'Alesio told the board came in about $3 million under budget. Crews broke ground March 10. Separately, the district approved about $23,212.50 to rent the AHN Montour Sports Complex so teams have what the minutes call "a consistent home site for practices and games" this season.
Coach Ryan Linn has been blunt about the year. "We are just taking the mindset that all the games are road games," he told TribLIVE. He told the Beaver County Times that for seniors, "they won't get that taste of a true home game."
Homecoming goes with them. The Moon Area band's calendar lists Homecoming as Friday, Sept. 25, at West Allegheny — an away game.
Two questions readers will ask are not answered anywhere public. Ticket prices, whether district student and senior passes will be honored at Joe Walton or F.N.B., and game-day parking for the Moon games are not published by the district. And at the June 8 meeting, band parent Kim Joyce asked the board whether there is a plan to offset the fundraising revenue the marching band loses without home games. Jason Bishoff, another band parent, raised the same concern. The minutes do not show the board answering.
The district says it expects to host the majority of its home games again in the 2027-28 season, once the stadium is finished.
